The staying trip of 2760 metres was right up the 5yo's alley, working round early to the lead, and running home a last half in 54.3 to take the prize by 1.6 metres. It was a very impressive performance. Now boasting better than $2,103,000 from 32 wins in 42 starts, Leap To Fame is about to make a determined assault , on, firstly, the Cranbourne Cup $100k, The Newcastle Mile $100k (automatic spot in the Miracle Mile $1,000,000 ) and, all being well, culminating in "The Grins" at Cambridge in MZ on April 12. It's a lot of money, but we are talking about a lot of horse.

Father and son team Bill (breeder)and Ben Crosby (trainer)pulled the right rein in sending talented pacer, Frankie Ferocious, south the stable of Jason Grimson to campaign for the big money available for 4yos in the coming months. Plagued by niggling leg injuries, and possessed of enormous speed, the son pf Captain Treacherous and Morethanmeetstheye, had won his last two races at Albion Park. The "back to back" wins became a "hat trick" in the "Hip Pockrt " Castlemaine 4yo Classic. Driven a patient race by Cam Hart, and helped by very strong speed up front, "Frankie" bolted home down the straight to win in 1:51.6 mile rate, last half in 54.6 seconds. $42,750 jumped in, and even better, automatic inclusion in the "Chariots Of Fire" Group 1 Feature. Camp Crosby exceedingly happy, but no happier than the Marburg based punter who took $5,000 to $50 on FF in the Chariots some weeks back. It's called faith, and it can be a handy thing to have.
