AMERICAN SULKY -- MIRACLE OR MYTH?

Above, you have an image of the latest addition to the ever widening range of American style race sulkies available in this fair land. It is the "SPYDER PHANTOM". No doubt the purchaser has the option of choice of wheels. This style of sulky, first appeared in the southern hemisphere at the NZ Cup Carnival of 2009 behind two very good horses trained by Steven Reid with super light reinsman, Ricky May, in the seat. Acceptance among trainers and drivers has been, in a word, UNIVERSAL. This blog is designed to attract comment from trainers and drivers who have used the vehicles over a period of time, as this writer ,after 15 years of close observation, can see only one positive factor, which is the closer hitch. This is then negated by a number of drivers who position the sulky even closer to the horse because THEY "like it that way". Stand at the top of the home straight at Marburg and hear them hitting the discs in almost every race. Let's get this discussion going.
